Quickspin’s Dragon Shrine, a Gemstone Themed Pokie
Dragon Shrine is one of the recently released pokie machines, a title that comes from Quickspin. Its promise might be that of a dragon theme, but the actual implementation offers you more gemstones than anything else, to which they’ve added a few Royals as well.
The game does have that dragon angle, as well as a shrine, but those are just two symbols, and the rest don’t seem to have a connection with them. The pokie has 5 reels, not all of the same size, and 40 pay lines. A jackpot of $800 can be won, and the features include the stacked Dragons, the wilds and the scatters which deliver free spins.
What We Love
I might not be a big fan of the symbol choice, but the quality is pretty good overall. You have symbols which rely on a Dragon, the Shrine, various colored gemstones, as well as poker cards. There are two reels with three symbols each, the first and the fifth ones, while the three reels from the middle have four symbols each.
A major feature of Dragon Shrine is actually based on the symbol that has the Dragon Logo. Acting as a regular symbol, it comes in stacked as well, and getting it to be fully visible on reel 1 will mean that a Respin feature will start up next. The Dragons are capable of forming regular combinations of up to five symbols.
If you get the stacked Dragon to occupy reel 1, then you get the feature where wilds and Dragons get locked into place, while 3 respins follow after that. New wilds or Dragons will also be locked into position.
The regular wild symbol is used, showing an image with a golden square that has a Wild logo in the middle. You use this one to substitute for the other symbols that are trying to form regular combinations. You also get it to form its own, in which case you get paid up to 10x the wager of that round, so up to $800.
The Bonus Shrine symbol, which is the scatter, can only appear in the middle three columns, and you need it on all three to get the 10 free spins.
It’s easier to trigger the Respin feature here, since the dragon stack can also appear on reel 5, not just on reel 1. You also get paid by forming combinations from either side of the reels, not just the left like in the base game.
What We Do Not Like
I didn’t like the way they used those gemstone symbols everywhere, especially since this is supposed to be an Asian dragon themed game, and Chinese style objects would’ve fit better in there.
Dragon Shrine doesn’t impress the player, not with its graphics anyway. It does better feature wise, but it’s trying to innovate more than anything else.
